Every use case being advertised, home repairs, fireplace styling, DIY decisions, implicitly assumed the viewer owned property and had disposable income. Renters, busy professionals, and everyday decision-makers weren't being spoken to.

01 | the insight
The product had a relatability problem, not a capability one
Microsoft Copilot Vision is an AI assistant that provides real-time help based on what the user sees through their camera. A review of Microsoft's live campaigns across Meta and Google revealed a consistent and costly pattern.
The core finding
Existing creative was targeting a narrow affluent homeowner audience, while the product's actual value, real-time AI assistance for everyday decisions, was universally relevant. The audience gap was large, addressable, and being ignored.
02 | the strategy
Use case selection + A/B messaging architecture
The strategic challenge was identifying a use case universally relatable regardless of income, living situation, or demographics. The answer: dinner decision fatigue.

The split was designed to identify whether conversion is driven by emotional relief or novelty, a meaningful distinction for optimizing future campaign spend.

Variant A — Meal Prep (MP)
"Plan your week in minutes, not hours."
Problem → Solution framing. Tests whether the audience responds to having a burden removed, emotional relief, and mental load reduction.

Variant B — Virtual Chef (VC)
"Turn ingredients into ideas with your virtual chef."
Feature → Benefit framing. Tests whether the audience responds to technological curiosity and empowerment, AI as capability, not rescue.
Why dinner decision fatigue
Standing in front of a fridge after a long day with no plan and limited groceries is an experience that cuts across income levels, living situations, and age groups, unlike home repair or interior design, which assume homeownership or disposable income. The kitchen is where most people actually are at the end of a workday.

POV camera perspective — viewer inside the interaction

UI simulation — Resembles Copilot interface
03 | the visual system
Every design decision engineered for a 1.5-second window
POV phone perspective
Places the viewer directly inside the interaction, a macro-focused device view paired with a subtle Copilot UI navigation bar. Keeps Copilot's intelligence front and center while avoiding the generic lifestyle photography that saturates competitors' AI ads.
UI simulation + production compliance
Real Copilot interface details: "I'm listening" prompt and navigation bar for authentic product behavior. Legal disclaimer "Screen simulated. Sequences shortened." meets corporate product marketing standards for a global brand.

Diagonal masking — pattern interruption + eye flow
Diagonal masking system
Applied across all 8 units as a unifying layout device. Creates visual movement, disrupts conventional banner formats for pattern interruption, and guides the eye from pain-point headline → product interaction → CTA within the 1.5-second viewing window.
4-level typographic hierarchy
Open Sans (closest match to Microsoft's proprietary Segoe UI) with strict hierarchy: benefit headline → supporting context → product name → CTA. Optimised for fast scanning at every ad size.

05 | the outcome
End-to-end performance creative — independently, in under 16 hours
The complete suite was delivered production-ready, compliant with Microsoft's global brand standards, and structured as a genuine A/B test ready to run. But the more significant contribution was strategic, not executional.

Strategic contribution
The kitchen use case reframes Copilot Vision not as a luxury tool for homeowners and affluent individuals, but as an everyday AI companion for anyone, a positioning shift with meaningful implications for both reach and conversion potential. The audience gap identified in this project remains unaddressed in Microsoft's live campaigns. New campaigns highlight more relatable angles to reach larger audiences, such as students and busy professionals.

Microsoft's existing Copilot Vision campaigns were systematically missing the majority of their potential audience. This self-initiated project identified the gap and built a production-ready creative solution to close it.
